In the past few years, creators of all backgrounds have flocked to YouTube to share their passions and content. One person in particular who has cashed in on the YouTube gold rush is PewDiePie.
Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg is a Swedish YouTuber, more popularly known by the name, PewDiePie. Born on October 24th, 1989, in Gothenburg, Felix Kjellberg grew up interested in the arts and was a passionate gamer during his school days.
After graduating high school from Göteborgs Högre Samskola (2008), he took up industrial economics and technology management at the Chalmers University of Technology, but he always felt out of place and ended up dropping out, so that he could pursue his own interests, much to the dismay of his parents.
Today, he is one of the biggest names on the internet, with his video commentary on games as well as epic reaction videos going viral. He currently has over 111 million subscribers on YouTube. Check out the gear PewDiePie uses here!
To keep it short, here are the average earnings that PewDiePie makes per video, month, year and his net worth.
How Much Money Does PewDiePie make from YouTube?
PewDiePie’s average earnings per video: $30,000
PewDiePie’s lifetime earnings on YouTube: $100 million
HERE’S HOW I CALCULATED PEWDIEPIE’S EARNINGS
On average, a typical YouTuber can expect to earn about $3-4 per 1,000 views they get on their videos. However this can drastically rise or drop depending on peoples interaction with the videos and the size of the channel.
With simple math, PewDiePie’s 28 billion views and a CPM of $4/1000views equals roughly around $100 million.
Keep in mind that these figures are only estimates. Regardless of the number, these are pretty mind bending numbers considering this is one man playing video games online. This shows the power of the internet and YouTube.
How Many Subscribers Does PewDiePie Have?
In July of 2022, PewDiePie has amassed over 111 million YouTube subscribers. He has racked up over 28 billion total YouTube video views in that time.
How Much Does PewDiePie Make Per YouTube Video?
On an average day PewDiePie accumulates 5-10 million views per video on his YouTube channel. That’s most than more YouTube channels will ever get in their lifetime.
For the sake of this question, I will use 6 million views on a video as an example.
$5 per 1,000 views on a video viewed 6 million times =
- PewDiePie makes $30,000 per video on average
Just for arguments sake, say PewDiePie earns $3 per 1,000 views. He would still be making $18,000 per video plus any sponsorship on top of that! That’s some serious numbers.
How Much Does PewDiePie Earn Per Month on YouTube?
While PewDiePie remains private about his earnings and would prefer a discussion on the amount of money he has raised for charity, he had uploaded a video in which he commented on his earnings. He read from a website claiming that he earns $3,400 (£2,600) per hour, and said that the figures weren’t “far off”.
An average of 400 million views per month and earnings of $5 per 1,000 views, we can then use this formula to calculate his average monthly earnings and more. For a rough estimate:
- PewDiePie’s average monthly earnings (YouTube Ads): $2 million
Using the above formula, we can come to the conclusion the PewDiePie earns close to 2 million dollars per month on YouTube, give or take.
Now let’s factor in his other revenue streams.
According to Sellfy’s data conversion tool, he’ll make about $1.5 – $2 million on merch in a single month. In regards to his brand deals, you can safely estimate that he’ll rake in $250,000 to $500,000. Similarly with affiliate sales, he might make $250,000 to $500,000 per month.
So let’s add a figure of about $2.5 million to his $2 million in YouTube earnings:
- PewDiePie’s average monthly earnings (Total): $4.5 million
How Much Does PewDiePie Make Per Year on YouTube?
Applying the same formula from above, working out the average yearly earnings of PewDiePie’s channel is straight forward. $2 million X 12 =
- PewDiePie’s average yearly earnings (YouTube Ads): $24 million
Let’s factor in the other revenue streams of PewDiePie. We concluded that we could reflect his earnings with a safe estimate of $2 million a month. $2 million X 12 = $24 million.
- PewDiePie’s average yearly earnings (Total): $54 million
What Is PewDiePie’s Net Worth?
This question is a lot harder to answer as this would be pure speculation as to the total ad revenue, sponsorship deals and other arrangements PewDiePie has. Many different sources have speculated $50 million – $130 million. My guess is that it’s somewhere in the middle.
- PewDiePie’s estimated net worth: $70 million – $90 million
Whatever the number is, I’m sure PewDiePie is glad he dropped out of University to follow his passion for gaming and making videos.
Even in the adpocalypse in 2017, it is reported that PewDiePie still walked away with $12 million dollars despite some controversial content. If true, this is quite an astounding number as it begs the question as to what he may earn in 2020 without being demonetized.
Also, factoring in the race to 100 million subscribers between PewDiePie and T series, 2019 was the biggest revenue year to date for Felix.
PewDiePie’s Revenue Streams
The bulk of Felix’s revenue comes for YouTube ad revenue.
In 2019, PewDiePie signed an exclusively streaming contract with YouTube’s platform Dlive and announced that he would no longer post on YouTube. He started officially live streaming only on YouTube. Prior to 2019, PewDiePie had been streaming on other platforms as well, but this soon changed once he amassed hundreds and thousands of followers and views.
In 2020, YouTube took steps (and supposedly spent a lot of money) to sign an exclusivity contract with PewDiePie. PewDiePie followed this by saying that YouTube was a natural fit for him and his followers. He has been with YouTube ever since, creating new records every day, as far as a solo YouTuber is concerned.
His stint with YouTube has been tremendously successful and has helped him rake in millions of dollars via YouTube Ad revenue.
One thing to keep in mind is that YouTube ad revenue is not the only way PewDiePie makes money. Though it is the bulk of his income, he makes an absolute killing through merch, streaming, affiliate sales and brand deals.
Besides YouTube, here are some of the other ways PewDiePie earns money:
- He sells PewDiePie merch including hats, shirts, sweaters, yo-yo’s, etc. He sells his merchandise exclusively at his official store on www.represent.com.
He is also the co-creator of a custom video game called PoopDie, which he developed along with Bulbware. In PoopDie, you have to mold and manage your poops, which can be further upgraded. Sounds vulgar and gross, doesn’t it? This is not the first game PewDiePie has been involved in. In fact, he released his first game in 2015, titled ‘PewDiePie: Legend of The Brofist.’
- Moreover, he developed a special gaming headset under the Razer brand called “PewDiePie Razer Kraken Pro.” He has also partnered with his girlfriend Marzia to start a unisex apparel line called “Tsuki”. Tsuki translates to “Moon” and is a Japanese-inspired brand with a minimalistic design. The Tsuki range usually features a black and pink color palette with embroidered pieces on turtlenecks, tees, socks, hoodies, caps, and wool berets. Both him and his girlfriend are quite fond of Japanese culture, which is why they make frequent trips to Japan.
- He receives sponsorship income from companies like GFuel, NordVPN, Happy Socks, Lootcrate, G2A and Backflip Studios.
- He promotes products in his YouTube descriptions and social media which earn him a referral commission.
- He makes money live streaming exclusively on YouTube.
There are probably many more ways that Felix funnels cash into his pockets, but these are some of the most notable revenue streams.
Where does PewDiePie spend his money?
With so much money to spare, you may wonder where PewDiePie spends his money! It is natural for one to think that he regularly buys expensive cars, houses, and takes expensive trips around the world. However, that is not the case. PewDiePie doesn’t spend all his fortune on himself, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a lavish life. Did you know that PewDiePie regularly donates his money to charities and several other social causes?
For example, he celebrated his achievement of reaching 25 million subscribers with a Charity Drive. Moreover, he regularly donates to charities such as Save the Children, Charity: Water, WWF, CRY, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and several others.
When you start to look at the big picture, you start to see more multimillionaire YouTubers popping up every month. In the future this will become more common place as people and business’s start to see the full potential of the platform.

Does this take into account the recent adpocalypse from YT?
Bill R says
These calculations were done prior to the Adpocalypse. But from what I can tell his channel has bounced back.
Garrido says
You definitely did not do that calculation right, a lot of his videos get demonetized, did you calculate that?
Bill R says
Hey! Yes these calculations were done including Adpocalypse. While there were a few months of low earnings, it has picked up to similar levels from where it was before. Of course there is some degree of movement with these figures as we can never be 100%. Thanks for asking!

Oh may god…. IM DROPPING OUT OF COLLAGE AND IM ON MY 3YEAR TO BE A YOUTUBER! WISH ME LUCK!

How does he make $940,000,000 (read nine-hundred-forty million) per month but only $11.28 million per year?
Bill R says
Thanks for letting us know! Have just updated the article. Would be amazing if he was earning that much, but that was a typo aha.

What about his clothing line, Tsuki?

I think businesses are stupid for spending ad money on YouTube. Especially when it comes to channels like Pewdiepie. His audience probably has a net worth of $50. What are they going to buy? Nothing. It’s the most worthless consumer demographic ever.
Vallen Davis says
Jealous much?
JFK says
Yes, but daddy or mommy might have a (ph)at wallet. Besides it has more to do with brand recognition and the space it holds in consumers minds. For instance, if you mention fried chicken to most people the first thing that they will think of is KFC. Just an example if you catch my drift.
Neil says
Google Ad sense doesn’t put ads on videos based on the content creater. Ratger ads are targeted to the specific viewer. So the ads you get on a pewdiepie video are ads targeted towards you and not what you’re watching. Thus you could watch anything and you would pretty much receive the same ads. The only differnece is whether the video itself or channel is considered brand friendly depending on the brand.
chayne c baltezore says
he averages 2-4 million views per video. Obviously that many people has more than $50. I mean come on, he has over 100 million subscribers. Just by the law of averages there has to be some pretty rich people in there I myself have a net worth of over $50. Not to mention how much money he makes from Tsuki and PewDiePie related merch. You’re getting millions of views for your product and you’re not paying anywhere near what televised commercials cost. Sounds pretty smart to me, chief.
NUTCH says
Well if you do the math, It actually worth because at least 1-2 million ppl watching your ads and yeah, 0.1% of that number might actually interest in the ads and buy the product, if the product cost 30$ , thats 30k$ for you which is a good trade.
Henry says
What are you talking about? These days a majority of his fans are in their mid to late teens, and he has plenty of adult fans. That’s a massive amount of potential consumers to advertisers, they do have enough money to be worthy of advertisers investment.

This Article needs updating he averages 4-6 mil views a vid now and has around double the subscribers, you can use Socialblade.com to view his daily figures I’ve also noticed a lot more ads on his videos the last 6 months as he’s become more and more advertiser friendly, I know around June-August last year he was getting 10-15 million views every video it seems depending on the time of the year he fluctuates like the stock market, while that has taken a hit since the current pandemic started PewDiePie has seen a surge in growth, shame you can’t invest in him like you can with stocks. Lol
