First off, YES! Yes, you can make money from YouTube videos and vlogging in general. Simple Answer. However, the how much is a wide open subject.
How Can I Make Money With YouTube Vlogging?
1. Sell a Product Or Service
Let’s start by looking at some easier ways to use vlogging as a money making venture. A primary way to score the cash is to use your vlogging to sell a product or service. Think about it, people see and hear commercials all the time.
Even YouTube videos often have ads, either auto play before the video shows, or as links that pop up (more on that in a bit). Infomercials are an established TV phenomenon, we’ve been seeing those on cable and over the air for several decades now. YouTube has there own version of this in the way of Adsense.
If you make or sell a product, or offer a service with wide appeal, use your video making skills to your own advantage. Show before and after or your service, or describe in clear detail. Put that product to use, or highlight how awesome it is.
You can also film customer testimonials, and then promote that vlog! Without promotion, none of the monetizing ideas will be worth much of anything. Promote on your own webpage, your blog, on the various social media platforms. Ask others to help spread the word (link) for you.
2. Partner With The Adsense Programme
If you aren’t offering a product or service, there are other ways to monetize a vlog. YouTube Help shows two ways. The YouTube Partner Program and AdSense. Both of these have some rules and restrictions. Pay attention to those! Violations can get a vlogger kicked out the program, and it’s hard to get back in. You really must be promoting your videos for these programs to work. Minimum required views are 10,000.
3. Become An Affiliate
Affiliate deals and sponsorship are a couple of other options. This will require some research to see who your videos might best fit in best with. (I end sentences with prepositions all the time, it’s an art form.) If you make videos about dog training, a dog food company might have an affiliate program for you.
If you make Go Pro vids of skateboarding or mountain biking, an energy drink or protein bar might want to sponsor you. You get the idea. Target the audience, and customize the ad feeds, if the affiliate or sponsor offers that.
How Much Money Can You Make From YouTube Vlogging?
How much money is it possible to earn? That really depends on you.
There is no set pay scale showing what works where and with whom. Sometimes, luck really does matter, too. That being said, a quick Google search of YouTube Success Stories shows a lot of people making a lot of money off of their videos. Sometimes, a personal video goes viral.
Once a video gets a certain number of views, YouTube will actually be contacting you about monetizing. Exact figures are hard to come by, mostly because of confidentiality agreements, but I’ve seen estimates of $10,000 to over $100,000 for the most seen viral videos. Other people have a regular feed of their own content and seem to bring in from about $30K a year to $30K a month.
People Of All Backgrounds Are Cashing In On YouTube
One girl I found makes comedy videos of her own misadventures and goofy ideas. Another popular vlogger is a video game fanatic, constantly reviewing the next latest thing while crying and screaming as he plays it. There is a group making outstanding, and sometimes outlandish, recipes, and then eating them on camera. There is even a guy whose channel is simply reviewing other YouTube videos, especially the viral hits.
From merchandising their own products, to ad sponsors and ad affiliates, to YouTube Partnering and AdSense, each of these success stories is making a good living off of their YouTube videos and other vlogging. After Googling those people, pay attention to their success stories in their bios or their own linked webpages. Generally, they found a niche, made good quality SHORT videos, and promoted them.
Yes, it is indeed possible to make money from your vlogging. A popular channel or vlog is required, though. We have posted before about how to get more viewers, and we will probably talk more about that in future posts. If you got rich, or even just gained a couple of extra bucks, making YouTube videos, then you are a success story, too.
