YouTube has revolutionized the way in which people now consume their media.
TIK TOK HAS CAUGHT UP TO THE VIEWERSHIP OF YOUTUBE, BUT THE REVENUE THAT CREATORS GENERATE FROM YOUTUBE IS UNMATCHED
This makes YouTube a gold rush for content creators and advertisers!
With billions of eyeballs watching YouTube everyday and with an ever increasing viewership, one starts to ask how much does YouTube pay for 1000 views?
This is a question I asked myself before starting my YouTube channel as I was curious as to how much money I could earn and if it was worth my time and effort.
So How Much Does YouTube Pay For 1000 Views?
On average: 10 cents – $7 per 1000 views
As you can tell by the above numbers, the earnings can fluctuate… a lot!
In the beginning I thought YouTube would pay a standard amount per 1,000 views which would make life a lot easier. But not all video content is created equal, so YouTube uses a method called CPM or cost per 1,000 views to calculate ones earnings. (Cost per mille).
Typically a CPM for a YouTube creator is $1.50 – $3 which when you add it up over 100,000 views could be close to $300 per video. However for many big YouTubers like Casey Neistat or MKBHD, their CPM can range from $5 – $7 as people are eager to watch their videos.
So What Is The Most Important Factor To Increasing Earnings On YouTube?
Interaction and ENGAGEMENT!
As I touched above, the earnings can dramatically fluctuate depending on the quality of content and more importantly the interaction with the content. If people are watching videos all the way till the end, it shows YouTube and advertisers that viewers really love the content which makes it more valuable.
This same rule applies to creators whether they have 5 subscribers or 500,000. Interaction is hands down one of the most important factors for increasing your revenue, retaining subscribers and attracting new ones.
Another way to view it is like the NBA playoffs vs late night infomercials. TV networks can ask for absurd amounts of money for these events as peoples attention is it its highest and an ad is likely to make a lasting impression.
Other Important Features That Determine A YouTubers Earnings
- Demographic of viewer (location, age, gender, interests)
- Mobile vs Desktop views
- Type of content (vlogs, news, reviews, beauty, crypto, travel etc)
- Amount of subscribers
- Watch time of videos
- Frequency of videos being uploaded
- Amount of videos
- Geographic location
While all of the above mentioned factors are important for YouTubers to increase their CPM and earnings. There are heaps of other ways in which YouTube creators can earn revenue for their channel. To name a few, there is affiliate marketing, sponsorships, merchandise, shoutouts and so much more!

I watch firearms related videos. Youtube monitors them and has created new rules and give people 3 chances to change their content. They can get suspended or kicked off. You can use a silencer but cannot put it on, on camera. There are other rules that can get them shut down. Yet, I see things from non gun content showing violence, people getting hurt and disturbing things. I do like I do on TV, I shut it off and don’t watch it. Their political agenda is also very obvious.
