If you’ve seen at least one podcast, YouTube video or interview, you know that there is one specific microphone that dominates the market. Joe Rogan has used this mic for decades.
Joe Rogan is one of the most polarizing and talked about names in podcasts and media in 2022. He is a commentator for the UFC, standup comedian, podcast host and controversial figure. He rose to prominence from hosting “Fear Factor” in the 2000’s and grew his podcast, Joe Rogan Experience, to one of the most popular in the entire world.
What Microphone Does Joe Rogan Use in 2022?
MOST USED BY PODCASTERS IN 2022
Shure SM7B
✅ industry standard audio quality
✅ xlr-based compatibility
✅ 2 lbs sturdy and rugged
Joe Rogan uses the Shure SM7B which is considered the gold standard among podcasters and video creators. Shure is an Australian brand that manufactures some of the highest quality microphones one can possibly buy. This one is no exception.
This SM7B has a wide range frequency response which is great if you want natural and crispy audio for both voice and music. Another feature of this mic is the built-in rejection of electromagnetic hum. This shields against interference emitted by other devices. If you would like to learn more about this microphone, you can see my full Shure SM7B review here.
- Wide range frequency
- Ships with A7WS windscreen and foam screen
- Pop filter that protections against loud breathing sounds

What Microphone Arm Does Joe Rogan Use?
Since publishing this article, there have been several comments about the type of microphone arm that is used to hold the Shure SM7B on the JRE. After a bit of digging, it seems the current arm that is used is the O.C. White ProBoom Mic Arm.
Once a microphone is attached (can adapt to almost any studio mic) it gives the speaker a full range of motion which allows for clear audio input. This is also very helpful to have if you plan on recording a longer podcast episode or recording sessions sitting down.
- Rotates 360 degrees
- 3/8-inch threaded mic mount/clip
- Desk mounting option
- Multi axis swivel mount for accurate positioning
What Makes the Shure SM7B the Best Podcast Microphone in 2022?
A good quality microphone is a critical piece of equipment for audio content creators who produce podcasts, vlogs, commercial soundtracks, and other types of audio files.
Do you really need a Shure SM7B Vocal Dynamic microphone, or will some other quality brand suffice?
Naturally, it’s better to invest in something tried and tested, but beginner podcasters, comedians, voice-over artists, and podcast creators might not have the funds at hand for a quality brand like Shure. It’s possible to get away with a more affordable brand of popular microphone as long as you consider the following features when you go shopping.
Consider Your Space
How much space do you have available for your podcast setup? Experienced content creators like Joe Rogan use a fully-equipped professional studio for recordings.
With a proper indoor setup, there’s adequate space to install a proper microphone, there’s no wind (which eliminates the need for a microphone windscreen), boom arms are permanently installed to reduce handling noise, and the overall ambiance and noise level in the room are controlled.
The SM7B is designed to reject extraneous noise in the podcast setup, but even a quality microphone like the SM7B will show performance issues if external factors like wind, noise, echoes, and other factors interfere with the recording.
If you’re extremely limited on space then it might be better to start with additional studio equipment like a microphone windscreen to help eliminate external noises before you invest in such a pricey microphone. A portable microphone can be a much better option if you work in different locations or have a tiny workspace.
The Sensitivity
Microphones with a lower sensitivity are preferable for larger recording studios. These types of microphones capture fewer ambient sounds so the main focus will be on the speaker’s voice. But if your recording studio is extremely small, then it might be better to invest in a microphone with a higher sensitivity level so you can get a clearer voice recording and avoid audio leaks.
Hum Rejection
A microphone for podcasting with hum rejection is extremely handy in recording setups with lots of electronic devices in the same room. The hum rejection feature eliminates or rejects humming or digital sounds and increases your chances of creating a successful podcast.
Shock Mount
Popular podcasters swear by proper shock mounts. These mounts are designed to eliminate handling noises. This is a critical feature to look for when you’re shopping for a microphone because it can be difficult to create recordings that exclude handling noises if your microphone doesn’t have built-in shock mounts.
Vocal Presence Boost
This feature is used to emphasize speech frequencies. Microphones with a sensitivity of 3-6kHz tend to capture clearer voice sound quality and also assists in eliminating external booth sounds.
Conclusion
We hope that we answered the question of what microphone Joe Rogan uses.
Hopefully this guide helped you decide whether you need an authentic Shure SM7B Vocal Dynamic Microphone or if you could get by with something cheaper and more basic.

Did you also by chance find out what channel strip or mixer they use? You really need one of these in combination with the SM7B and I wasn’t able to find out what they use for their show.
Thanks in advance!

you can get away with a small 5 channel mixer, 2 or 3 mics in and an aux line for playing drops and audio from video or whatever your podcast dictates. I used my mixer from my PA system first, but wound up switching to a dedicated small mixer. Mine was only $50 on sale from 70. I already had a USB interface, though, so that was like another $150 or so. Still cheaper than getting a large board, that you won’t utilize 75% of that costs more than both pieces i use combined, and are waaaaaay less portable.

Sorry for late reply. Did a bit of research and couldn’t come up with a clear answer on what mic Rich Roll uses. Watched a few of his videos where the mic is being used but couldn’t pin point the exact model. Good luck!
