What makes Casey Neistat so cool and relatable is his vast amount of life experience, knowledge, creativeness and perspective on life. This makes watching a hugely enjoyable experience as you get to see genuine interactions and experiences.

If you have been watching season 3 of the Vlog then you know Casey has been experimenting with his camera setup. Let me also say that i am filled with joy upon the return of the daily Vlog! Casey has recently made the switch to Sony cameras as he needed something more compact and the ability to shoot 4K video.
Sony A6500
As far as new cameras are concerned, Sony is seriously upping their game. Take this camera for example that Casey Neistat is using in his Video Blogs. It has a 24.2MP APS-C Sensor that shoots crispy 4K video. Some other cool features of this model is that 5-axis in-body image stabilisation which is perfect for steady shots when Casey is weaving through NY traffic.
Sony A7s II
For some time Casey was using this Sony A7s II which was in response to a feud with Canon. On the onset Casey really enjoyed using this camera. After some time he noticed some fundamental missing elements which made it difficult to use for daily Vlogging. Some of this missing features was the lack of a flip screen and sluggish auto focus.
After Casey switched yet again to the above Sony A6500, he retired his Sony A7s II to full time audio position. You can still see this camera in use while Casey shoots in house shots for animations, mail time and interviews.
Casey Neistat Camera/ DSLR Setup
Mr Neistat uses a wide range of cameras from big DSLR’S to smaller point and shoots. This is mainly because of the huge variance of locations and environments he records video in. Canon EOS 80D Digital SLR
Casey has pioneered the ways in which Vloggers record now with his iconic setup of a DSLR on a GorrilaPod. If you watch the daily Vlog then you’ve most probably seen this Canon 80D at some point.
This is Casey’s daily/ go to camera for Vlogging when travelling and for when he is kicking it in New York.
As Casey Neistat is quite unforgiving to his cameras. It says a lot about this one in particular as he keeps using it. Canon EF-S 10-18mm Lens
This is the lens that Casey uses on a daily basis on his 70D. The reason why this lens is so kickass is that it has a variable ultra wide angle range. This allows for more to be in frame without missing or cropping anything important out. Another bonus of this lens is that you can capture amazing wide angle footage of scenery with the 10mm focal range!
Canon EF-S 10-22mm Lens
This Canon lens is very similar to the above one with the added feature of it providing a slightly better quality image. However this lens is substantially more expensive which me be a reason as to why Casey doesn’t use it all that often. If your a daily watcher of the blog you notice very quickly that Casey goes thru a lot of lenses as he is very “demanding of his equipment”
Joby GorillaPod Tripod
This Joby GorillaPod is a essential part of Casey’s Vlogging setup as it has a huge range of versatility and functions. Casey has added another dimension to this product by turning it into a glorified selfie stick.
The GorillaPod is also strong enough to support a larger DSLR camera while being light enough to manoeuvre even when traveling on boosted board!
Casey has pioneered the Vlogging setup with a DSLR on top this tripod which has proven successful for recording on the go. Another added feature of the Joby GorillaPod Tripod is that you can pretty much attach it to any object or surface with its clamp like adjustable legs.
Rode VideoMic Pro
When it comes to making a good Vlog capturing great video is only have the battle. The other half is being able to capture good audio from your camera. Casey Neistat uses the Rode VideoMic Pro which is a notorious brand for being super reliable and affordable.

When it comes to the holy grail of Vlogging point and shoots cameras the Canon G7X Mark II definitely takes the crown. This is Casey’s goto point and shoot when not using his 70D.
This camera boasts heaps of great Vlogging features such as Image Stabilization, 24-100mm lens, adjustable screen and great quality video.
Having the 24-100mm lens you are able to shoot in wide angle which is perfect for Vlogging. Apart from Casey Neistat using this Canon G7X Mark II many other great Vloggers also use this camera.
One of the huge luring factors of this camera is the Optical Image Stabilization which is important for Vloggers like Casey who usually record on the move.
Canon PowerShot 120
Casey Neistat’s first daily Vlogging camera was the Canon PowerShot 120 and is still used in the Vlogs today. One of the main features that attracted Casey was it reliability and ruggedness which is essential when using daily.

DJI Phantom 4
This drone is a recent addition for Casey and he has been mastering the art of shooting great video with this DJI. Having a drone in the Vlog defiantly adds another dimension that you usually wouldn’t see from many other YouTubers.
One of the main features of this new DJI Phantom 4 is that it now has front facing sensors so it won’t hit into any walls.
Another great feature of this drone is that it can automatically follow you while recording video. This frees up more concentration for other activities while not having to focus mainly on the drone.

When Casey ins’t using his Boosted Board he would usually opt for his Penny Board. This is usually when a Boosted Board is too large to travel with or runs out of charge. This penny board is a great alternative as its can fit easily in a suitcase and it almost indestructible thanks to its injection moulded body.
Smartphones/ Cellphones
In the odd situation when a larger camera is too bulky or not compact enough for a situation Casey will whip out his smartphone for recording. iPhone 6s

Firstly you have the added benefit of it being super pocketable while also shooting crispy 4K footage with auto focus.
Also you have fairly good low light sensitivity of a smartphone and a pretty solid microphone swell. Some of Casey Neistat’s Vlogs have been shot entirely on a iPhone and sometimes it’s actually hard to tell. For instance this video below was shot inertly on the iPhone 6s.
Samsung Galaxy S7
Casey has always be a huge fan of Apple products but recently he has been experimenting with other devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S7. If you watched the episodes in which Casey had access to the Oscars you most likely would have this this smartphone.
Casey spoke highly of this Galaxy S7 as it has continuous auto focus, 4K recording, expandable memory, good battery life and a great low light video capturing.
Since smartphone cameras and the device in general are becoming more advanced by the year more beginner Vloggers are opting to use their phones. This is a great move as you don’t have to invest in a new camera as you can just use the one thats in your pocket.
