When it comes to YouTube Vloggers its fair to say that Casey Neistat is one of the most iconic and polarising figures. How can you not be motived to get up and create after watching one of his videos? In fact Casey was one of the factors that i decided to make this website. So maybe you’re asking yourself what camera does Casey Neistat use?
Fortunate for you we watch everyone of his videos so we know all the latest cameras he is using.
Casey has recently retired from the daily Vlog’s #devastated to pursue other creative content. However Casey still creates the odd video which makes the ones he does release even better.
Casey definitely is a gear head when it comes to cameras, mics, drones, skateboards and the list goes on. Because of this we have created this run down on what camera does Casey Neistat use. Below you will find the cameras he uses with a brief description and features.
In short here are the cameras that Casey Neistat uses on a daily basis.
So what camera does Casey Neistat use?
Canon 80D
If you’re a regular watcher of the Casey Neistat Vlogs or videos, then you have most probably seen this camera at one point. For the best part of 2015/2016 Casey was using the Canon 70D which now has a big brother, the Canon 80D. At first Casey was reluctant to upgrade but eventually made the jump to the Canon 80D in late 2016.
It comes as no surprise that Casey would opt for this camera as has it has all the essentials that make up a great YouTube camera. First is the touch flip screen which allows Casey to see himself while recording which is critical to make sure nothing is missed in frame.
Interestingly enough this is the main reason Casey wears sunglasses as he believes it would be distracting to the audience as he is always looking at the flip screen rather than the lens.
Another great feature of the Canon 80D is the new 45-point Auto Focus system. This may seem like any other feature but is hugely important for YouTube Vlogger’s. This is because Vlogger’s are most likely to be recording themselves or another person. It then becomes essential to have a camera than can track the movement of yourself or that person while keeping in focus.
In short this DSLR Canon 80D is an absolute work horse that provides great quality video and is no surprise that Casey would opt for a camera like this.
- 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor
- 45-point AF system
- 3″ 1.04M-dot articulating touchscreen
- 1080/60p video capture
Sony A7s II
Casey Neistat is a self-proclaimed Canon fanatic (no surprises there). However he had a recent dispute with the company after they refused to fix one of his broken lenses. As Casey is a great spokesman for Canon, it seemed that he wasn’t getting the service that he expected. In saying that, Casey goes through a lot of lenses. Because of this mini dispute between the two, Casey went over to the “dark side” and started using the Sony A7s II.
Casey actually made a video about this “incident”.
It seemed that Casey was curious and open minded to try a new Vlogging camera for his videos. So he decided to have an experiment and try something new. If there was one camera thats worth using instead of the Canon 80D, the Sony A7s II is a great replacement. This camera is at the leading edge of the mirrorless full-frame camera category.
Sony really is pushing the boundaries when it comes to this camera. Essentially you get all the great features from a DSLR style camera plus more in a compact and robust body. However this doesn’t come cheaply as you have to pay for the best.
Some stand out features of this Sony A7s II which make it great for a Vlogger is the 4K video recording, 12.2MP full frame sensor, flip screen (not touch sensitive), Image stabilisation, Fast Intelligent Auto Focus plus heaps more.
- 3.0″ 1,228,800-Dot Tilting LCD Monitor
- Up to 5 fps Shooting and ISO 409600
- Fast Intelligent AF, 169 AF Points
- Built-In Wi-Fi with NFC
